Case Studies
Aussie Legend Racing
Aussie Legends Racing traditionally made the bodies for their
racing cars by hand. This process was proving too slow and difficult
to make a symmetrical body.
To speed up development and achieve a symmetrical body, a 3D CAD
model was created of the Holden Commodore. A pattern was then cut
in foam using
computer
controlled
machinery.
By working on the foam pattern, Aussie Legends could evaluate
the look of the car at full size and make changes to the design.
One half of the car was worked on.
Once the half was just right, the pattern was 3D scanned. A mirror
image was created so the left and right halves were identical.
The final 3D CAD model was then sent to be cut by a computer controlled
mill to make the final pattern for production.
